Why the Orphan Mandate?

James 1:27 states: "Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world." (KJV)

Note the second portion of the verse.

To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction.

Other versions of scripture state:
  • ...reach out to the homeless and loveless in their plight.
  • ...visit orphans and widows in their affliction.
  • ...caring for orphans and widows in their distress.
  • ...look after orphans and widows in their distress.
Let's briefly define a couple of words.

orphan: A child who has been deprived of parental care and has not been adopted.
mandate: An official order or commission to do something: "a federal mandate".

Regardless of the version, scripture is clear. That we are to "do something" for orphans and widows.

The Orphan Mandate is a ministry that began on the hearts of those who have been called to do something. In turn, we would like to provide resources and inspire those who have been called to do the same.
